Fingers crossed I'll get to meet one of my heroes |
If you are within a hundred mile radius of Linton* this weekend, drop everything (well, apart from small fluffy pets and valuable china plates) and make your way to the Linton Children's Book Festival - and I'm not just saying that because I'll be there (although I would love to see you if you'd like to come and hear all about dinosaurs and see some amazing fossils) but because the whole event looks totally spectacular . . .
They've already had a historical reenactment of the Linton rebellion and a story competition and there's a treasure hunt round the village. On top of that, some truly fantastic authors and illustrators will be there . . . Pauline Francis, author of wonderful historical fiction including Traitor's Kiss, Andy Cope, author of the Spy Dogs series (Emily and Drift wish they could go to that one, but it's too far from Castle Key), Tommy Donbavand, author of the Scream Street series, with his ghoulish game show, Rebecca Patterson, multi-talented author/illustrator of fab picture books including My Big Shouting Day (I've had a few of those in my time!) ... and lots, lots more . . . and as if that wasn't enough excitement, there's only going to be BABAR THE ELEPHANT!!!!
Yep, Linton may be a small town but it's got some of the biggest and best guests this weekend!
*"Where is this fabulous place, the epicentre of the children's book world?" I hear you shout. Linton is in South Cambridgeshire, not far from Cambridge, Saffron Walden and Haverhill, right about here.
